Question for my Readers

Since I write bits and pieces for a number of different web sites, (which I'm not allowed to re-post here) I often briefly introduce them on this blog and then leave the link.

I popped over to a friend's blog the other day and she had done something similar - and I didn't click through. I couldn't be bothered. (I hasten to add, I often click through.)

Then it occurred to me that Expat Mum readers might be doing the same.

So are you? Do you click through to my other pieces when I post a link? Or do you say, "Oh, she's being a lazy blogger today", and move on?

  1. I tend to click through to read your family-orientated blogs but sometimes don't click through if I don't think the title grabs me. I probably click through 80% of the time though. :-)

  2. I used not to, then couldn't stand not knowing what i was missing. You have me on click.

  3. Depends on a number of factors:

1)I'm more likely to click through if it's for a post that is expat-related rather than mum-related.

2)Am I on my computer or am I reading it on my iPhone while on the go? I'm more likely to click through on the computer than on the phone. Slower loading times and it's just a bit more tricky with the size of my fingers and screen (I think I'm hitting the link but I hit the stumble upon tab or the comment link).

    3) Is it a post from a site that is already in my google reader? This is the case with Pond Parleys, so I maybe won't click on the link as I've already read that post or know that it is waiting for me.

  4. Some of the time I do if it sounds interesting. I'd say I click through about 60-70% of the time.

  5. I don't follow the link.

  6. I click through most of the time, but not 100% of the time. And then I don't know whether to leave a comment there, or on your blog.

  7. And if it's Pond Parleys, then probably not, as I have that in my reader separately.

  8. Thanks all. I would say most of the stuff I write elsewhere is the same type of stuff that you'd read here (ie. intelligent, funny, topical - LOL) which is why I leave the links. It's often something I've drafted for this blog and then remember I'm due to give something to another web site.
I'll try to do a better job with descriptive titles (which I'm useless at) to give more of an idea of what it's about.

  9. I usually click through, but, like Iota, I never know where to leave a comment.

  10. I usually don't click through and I have Pond Parleys on my reader. I'm lazy that way.

  11. Its all to do with time! If I only have a few minutes then I don't click. However, if the title really catches my imagination, then I do make the time.

It is annoying when you take the trouble to put in links and no one uses them. I know that from my own experience!

  12. I click through if that will make me look good in your eyes.

    No, I do. I do. :)

    (Not today though.)

  13. Because I read the majority of blog via my Google Reader then, yes, I'm more likely to click for a quick scan if I think the subject matter will interest me. It's also a great way of finding new blogs and/or websites.

  14. I often Click through because I enjoy reading your various posts and really admire your writing.

I also enjoy reading the various insights to a life other than mine (I'm a singleton in her mid-40s with a cat, yes- fitting that cliche completely!!!)

I must get back posting myself after 2 1/2 months away, Michelle/Mickle down in New Zealand

  15. I click through if the title grabs me. I've never thought to myself that you're being lazy, though - it's usually a case of ME being lazy.

@Maggie May - As I read yr comment, Rod Stewart was actually singing your song in the background - my husband had put on a concert DVD :D

  16. I did write a long comment before, but I think that I maybe forgot to fill out the captcha, so it didn't post? (I do that a lot! lol)

My honest answer was that I don't generally click through on short posts, which are mainly there just to promote a link. Not in Blogger anyway, obviously Facebook and Twitter are different beasts. I generally probably do click only around a third of the time. I prefer a post to be more substantial and stand alone and if I enjoy it, I am more likely to click on any links within it.

There is no harm in promoting your other articles on Blogger though, methinks.

  17. Mhm, depends. On how much time I've got, how interested I am in the topic... Funnily enough, if I read the other post, I tend to comment on the blog I came to read in the first place.

  18. Um - was that me? I do tend to click through (at least to your pond parley links), but understand why people might not on stuff I link to. I mainly do the link thing because, like you I'm not supposed to repost, and it seems such a shame to waste a post when I know (or hope, in any case!) that regular readers of my blog like it...

  19. Ha ha Potski - no it wasn't you! I'll always click through for you!

  20. I have to admit that often I don't, but I will from now on!

  21. Sorry I'm a lazy reader - I don't tend to click the links. Always harried by Google Reader and it's unread posts count!

I will try to do better - as I always enjoy your posts here.
