Anyway, don't they have a way of saying things that can be taken many ways? Mothers, that is.
Like:
"You can look really nice when you make the effort."
or
"I know you don't mind going out without make-up,..." (when I'm actually plastered in it).
or
"You'll never get the car in there", (staring at a 30 foot long space.)
or
"Work? What "work" do you have to do?"
or
"I though you were organised."
Sigh....
ReplyDeleteAre you sure you've not got mine....????
ReplyDeleteMy exact words sometimes! But what would we do without them!

Nuts in May
Whenever I was wearing an outfit my mother didn't care for, her comment would always be, "Well....at least you're neat and clean."
ReplyDeleteMy mum in law recently asked me if I was wearing Halloween-leftover eye makeup.
ReplyDeleteNope, just really really tired, mother!
OMG Met Mum - really? You've just had a baby for crissakes! And you're beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMsC - Ouch.
Maggie - yes, agreed. I know my daughter says the same things about me anyway.
Tattie - I think it's the same mother just transforming as and when.
Joanne - I must admit, a few of them I have extrapolated or taken out of context. (Just in case she's reading!)
You made it a month?! (I kid, I kid...just in case, she's reading).
ReplyDeleteWe don't really 'work', do we? I just thought we were messing about on laptops... ;)
ReplyDeleteCould this be why my daughter's ditched me?
ReplyDeleteSo glad its not just me! Mine has a way of simply ignoring anything she does not wish to acknowledge - its speaks volumes tho!
ReplyDeleteI take my hat off to you. My mother only stays four nights maximum. Isn't there a saying, house guests are like fish: they go off after three days?
ReplyDeleteMy mum's best line to me when I think I'm all dolled up to the nines is, "when are you putting your make-up on?"
ReplyDeleteIt must be a sign of ageing that only yesterday I would have identified with the daughter and now I wonder if I do this too? I think I must even if I don't think I do, just part of the territory:)
ReplyDeleteI know my daughter could write a similar list about me.
ReplyDeleteHa, mine says the "you look really nice when you make the effort" line. But tbh, I don't make the effort much. She dresses up just to go shopping. I wear jeans and hopefully will have remembered to brush my hair. I can't actually find my make up bag, and anyway, the contents are all at least 10 years old so probably should be chucked.
ReplyDeleteStill, she's had all my life to get used to having a tomboy daughter, so I think she's ok with it now.
My family are all pretty blunt. It gets commented on whenever I've put on a few pounds. I'm used to it! I do have to try to remember not to be quite so blunt with other people, though I did tell a friend he looked really naff with his Movember moustache last night. Hopefully he didn't take it to heart too much... it does look dreadful though.
