And now, the end is near....

...I mean the end of the vacation.
We've had a great three months,
Despite the rain, (oh weren't we patient?)
I've been a model mom/mum
I've driven up and down the highway
But now, it's time for me
To do things my way

Yes there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off, more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
I buttoned up and took them out
I faced it all and I stood tall
And now it's my way

Regrets, I've had a few
But then again I'm not denying
I did what I had to do
And saw it through, (and sometimes smiling)

I planned each jolly day
Each careful step along the byway (whatever that is)
And now, it's time for me
It's time for my way

For what is a mom/mum, what has she got
If not 'ME' time, then she has naught (you have to say that in an American accent)
To do the things that must be done
Like trim her hair, go for a run

(Big finish)

The schedule shows, that off they go
To school on THURSDAY.......!

(Mine go tomorrow, and Praise Jebus that they do, because I am walking around with murder in my eyes)

  4. Very good. But how on earth did you find the time to compose that with children going back to school in just a few days? I haven't even had time to breath I'm so consumed with buying a Star Wars lunchbox ("whatever you do, do not come home with a SpiderMan one mummy"), finding trousers that actually fit properly and forking out fistfulls of cash on back to school shoes which are always so much more expensive than any other day of the week shoes. Just saying . . .

  5. Great song! If you take it on the road and your tour leads you anywhere near London, I'm there.

  6. Not sure how you put the noise that tumultuous applause makes down in writing, but you know what I mean....

  8. Actually, the posting was a bit premature, as Monday (today) is the last day of our vacation. We travel back to chicago tomorrow. Today we went white water rafting (I told you I was excelling at this mothering thing). However, it all went a bit wrong when the Ball & Chain, and 12 year old son capsized their double kayak. The winds were really strong and the current was fast. I thought we were going to end up on TV as the 12 y.o. got dragged across the river and B&C went off in a different direction. They would have been alright as it happens as they both had life vests on, but as the mother sitting watching it all - well, let's just say I don't want to see it again!
(Now sitting reliving it all with a glass of Pinot Grigio in hand!)

  9. Expat - hope you are over your trauma and the Pinot Grigio steadied the nerves.

  10. I love it when term ends and the holidays stretch endlessly before us ... and I love it all over again when the holidays end school days and ways beckon!
