I chuckled a while back on reading that Lakeland Jo had been called an “anorak” because she blogs. How very insulting. Unfortunately there was no one around with whom to share the joke. The word “anorak” isn’t used a lot in the US. There are heavy duty Parkas and rain slickers, which are light rain jackets (like cagools). Anoraks however, are simply called jackets, or quilted jackets at the most. And there is certainly no inference of anything train-spotterish attached to them.
And since I don't want to repeat myself, am very tired, but wanted you to join in this discussion, skip over to Pond Parleys to read the rest.....
That is one time when I wish my husband was British -- when he doesn't understand references to anoraks, crackerjack pencils, Blue Peter badges and Valerie Singleton's advent crown. I live in NC and wish I lived near someone like you so that we could talk about the old country.
ReplyDeleteI read the Pond Parley Post -- loved it! I'm still singing, "My baloney has a first name, it's O-S-C-A-R..."
