If You Haven't Thrown Your Christmas Cards Out Yet...

Bear with me while I brag a little. No seriously, look at these:

See what they are? Gift tags made entirely from this year's Christmas cards. (The bottom ones are a black/sparkly theme but the photography is a bit dodgy.)

The top three are simply pieces of card edging cut out and layered on top of each other in a sort of crafty but modern way. Even the basic tag is an old card. Make sure they're white on the back so that people can write greetings on them.

With just one Christmas card you can make a whole set of gift tags around a single colo(u)r theme, like the red and green ones, or the black and gold ones.

So if, for example, you use gold shiny wrapping paper next year, your gifts will look incredibly smart with similar tags.

Yes, they're home made, and recipients will know they're home made. However, to me that says someone took the time to make them for you, and of course, it's all about re-using and re-cycling.

  1. You couldn't have posted this YESTERDAY? Before my husband threw out all this year's cards? Sheesh. (as my now apparently mid-atlantic sons would say)

  2. I did this one year (a few years ago) and I'm still using them. A whole batch goes a long way.
Yesterday the City Council took ours away for recycling. (Into cardboard I expect) which is a pity. Your way is best!

  3. Funnily enough I used to do this all the time (although not quite as artistically as you). My Mum always did it. But the last couple of years, Christmas has been so overwhelming that I started buying crappy cheap gift cards to save time. Will have to go back to it.

  5. Gosh, I'm impressed. I also make gift tags out of cards, but I just cut out the design (using wiggly craft scissors to disguise the fact I can't cut straight) and just punch a hole in the corner. And sometimes a second hole if the first one's too close to the edge. No-one has yet complained!

    Yours are seriously arty.
