The Mummy Tummy

Of all the photos of Kate, I'm betting this one will be the most iconic. (Isn't that the word everyone uses these days?)

I can't have been the only mother to think "Oh, thank god" when she walked through those hospital doors? Someone other than me must surely have said "If she comes out in skinny jeans, I swear.....".

And she didn't.

She was sporting what most mothers do - a big ole belly. Or in her case, a neat bump.

She could have hidden it a little, as Diana did, in a flowing maternity dress; instead she was almost drawing attention to it, with the high-waisted look. I wonder if she even knew that she'd still have a bump after the delivery? I know I was clueless first time round and more than a little disconcerted to leave the hospital (after 3 days) with something resembling a large water balloon where my stomach used to be.

So, good for Kate for not trying to winch herself into anything. She reminded the world that most tummies don't go back to flat (or anywhere close) 24 hours after the baby comes out. Perhaps this will be the modus operandi for Kate the Mum and the Wales' as a family - trail-blazing and doing it au naturelle? What next? Taking more than three months to get back to her pre-pregnancy shape (gasp)? Never quite getting her figure back?

Somehow I doubt it, but as I said, it was nice to see that mummy tummy yesterday.

  2. I was so pleased to see her looking beautifully normal. All those photo shopped post pregnancy photos of celebraties drive me bonkers.

  3. She's a lovely mother, isn't she.

  4. Totally agree. Kate just made a lot of Brownie points by sporting a natural, happy attitude only one day after giving birth.

  5. When I first saw the pictures of her my very first thought was, "OMG, I forgot about the belly after birth!"

Which just goes to show you how long it's been since I've given birth.

But kudos to her for showing it - it's a part of life. Unlike all these celebs that hide it and act like it's not natural.
