Did I tell you I can be a touch dramatic from time to time? Well, this is one of those times.
I've been bored rigid by my blog's appearance for a while now. I also happen to be the world's most useless person when it comes to blog design. Not a great combination.
I did manage to put together the blog headline with the photos of the Angel of the North and the Chicago skyline. On Photoshop no less. Yes, go on - be impressed! Only I can't remember how I did it now. I must have been feeling extremely adventurous at the time.
As you can see, it now doesn't fit the blog. Nor do half the widgets on the side. That's because I fiddled around with the blog layout on Saturday morning, and this is the result. I don't mind the general layout, but obviously there needs to be some tidying up. The Powder Room Grafitti widget now fits, but I can't get my BMB one to go smaller. (See - you can tell by my ultra-non-technical lingo how utterly woeful I am at this stuff.) I thought if I removed it, then simply added it again, Blogger would somehow shrink it to fit.
Epic fail.
So I'm going to take a deep breath, step away for a day or two, and come back to it when I feel less like this about it...
Sigh.
.
well the left and right sides are now in alignment and the posts are in the middle so you're doing good. I have no idea how to make it the exact way you want it tho', but I'm sure someone will give you a tip.

Hmmm... If you look at the code for the badges, there's often a bit where it gives the height and width dimensions. You can play around with that. It doesn't always work.
ReplyDeleteOther people will have more wisdom than me!
Blogger looks more and more like the poor relation of blog hosts, as time goes on. Or am I the only one who thinks that?
The side bars are a little too narrow for the images, they're 190px and they need to be more like 210px. If you get stuck give me a shout x
ReplyDeleteI sometimes wish I'd just leave mine alone. The first one I ever did was probably the best because it was simple but now I tinker, faff and fiddle!
ReplyDeleteYour best bet is to take advice from Liz above: she's an absolute genius with this sort of thing - I have often seen how she helps people out.
Thanks Liz. I really want to make the pictures smaller rather than the margins any bigger, but I have successfully redone the Pond Parleys one (well, actually my co-host Mike, sent me a new one) and I shall just take deep breaths and force myself to figure it out. I can't believe how much this stuff can reduce me to a quivering wreck!
ReplyDeleteHere you go lovely, here's a really simple tutorial x http://www.pageresource.com/html/image4.htm
ReplyDeleteIt's a lot less boring than mine - so that's one positive at least. But I'm doing nothing about it for exactly the same reason: I've only got a limited store of sanity, and using it up on swearing at the computer (what? you think I do some of that anyway? Me? Never!) is unfair on my family... or something...
ReplyDeleteGood luck! And if you work it out, let me know!
Well, I followed Liz' instructions and got the pictures on my sidebars down a few notches. Then I went into Photo shop to do something with my banner and completely forgot how to do it. I will have to read the tutorial again.
ReplyDeleteIn the meantime, I created a new banner on Powerpoint, then saved it as a PDF then as a JPEG. (Can't do it straight to Jpeg for some reason.) It's still awful because the text is too fuzzy but it's pick up time at school soon and I have to take the dog for a walk beforehand. Pah!
Expat Mum's blog - a work in progress.
I'm so pleased you persevered and got it right! :)
