Minor mishaps

Well, we're coming to the end of our two weeks in Colorado, and - dare I say it? - all seems to be well. Let's not forget however, that the Man-Child broke his wrist on the last day of our ski week in February, so of course, there's still time.

I am sporting a fetching black and purple bruise on my right elbow but I only have my self to blame Suffering from delusions of flexibility and youth after a few glasses of Pinot Grigio, I went sledding (as they say here) with the dog and my 7 year old and well, let's just say I don't bounce as well as I used to. Good job it's winter and I'm wearing long-sleeved tops.

Oh and of course, there's the lashing I got from the retractable dog leash the night before. Still smarting from the accusation of being a "helicopter parent" (see previous post), I stepped back when the 7 year old put the dog's leash on. He didn't know that you have to attach it to the very thick loop on her collar as opposed to the more flimsy link that holds her dog tags.......which snapped as soon as she tried to break free for the hills. The dog tags went flying to goodness knows where and the leash retracted back into its case, in the fashion of a giant tape measure! Of course, since I was the one holding the leash, I was the recipient of the final whip, and was caught firmly under the right eye. I didn't know quite what had happened for a second or two, and was lucky to wake up mext morning with nothing more than a faint red mark!  It would have been a real pain explaining a black eye sustained by a dog leash!

I am still debating the idea of NY resolutions since I don't remember any of them actually being maintained past about February of each year.

How about you?

  1. Well, I hope you manage to all survive the rest of the holiday without extra bruises.

As for NY resolutions, I will think about them when I get some sleep. Actually, no - I have some: get a grip on being a mother of three, get in shape, and getting some sleep.

    Have a great 2011!

  6. Ouch ouch ouch! I lost our dog (briefly) making the sane leash attachment error once!
As for new years resolutions, I'm going to get my almost 5 year old out of pull ups for nighttime. I'm worried she'll go to college in them at this point!

  7. Oh dear! Hope you feel better. You can soothe it all with lashings of alcohol over the New Year. Wishing you and yours a fantastic 2011! Hxx

  8. Now that would have made for an interesting conversation piece, had the 'indentation incident' been different: can you imagine trying to explain why you had (insert dog's name) embossed on your cheek, along with a phone number written back-to-front? No, me neither.

    Anyway, glad you are okay.

Resolutions? Why not just continue with the status quo if it does not need changing? Like they say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

    All the best for 2011.

  10. I just wanted to say how much I loved your book! I got it for Christmas and read it in 2 days (probably a record for me). It was so eye-opening. I thought that I knew a lot about Britain, but I learned so much! Thank you for making it so fun and funny; I read tons excerpts aloud to my family and they loved it too, even though they aren't Britophiles :)
