Milky Bar Kid - Joe 90 - Stuart Little - Take Your Pick

So, after the drama of the weekend eye test, the Little Guy got his glasses. I am now feeling terribly guilty that he may have been having headaches because of his need for glasses. I don't know - I expected the school vision screening to pick up such an obvious problem, but apparently not. Now I feel very terrible but he's not holding it against me. Still wants me to put him to bed and that sort of thing......

Glasses are so very much cooler than they used to be - or is it that the kids are just more tolerant? He was excited about his glasses - after all, the arms are black on one side and electric blue on the inside. I mean, who could ask for anything more? I sensed a touch of anxiety about what his classmates would say but his lovely teacher (who wears very similar specs) obviously guided the whole conversation and the comments ranged from "cool" to "very handsome". A good day.

The teens had to be shot down with a withering glance or two as they did nerd-using nasal-inhaler mimes - and not that subtlely either. Given that they have both had to wear very similar glasses from time to time I thought that was a bloody cheek and will be suspending laundrey duties forthwith until they learn empathy - or something. He's only 7 fer feck's sake...

and gorgeous if I may say so.

His pupils are still a little dilated from his eye test, just in case anyone is concerned!

  1. He looks just like you! Same eyes, but maybe that's because they're still dilated?!

I cannot believe how groovy glasses are now, especially after the bloody awful NHS ones which were available for kids.

Hope he gets on OK with them at school.

  2. I always wanted to wear glasses when i was little. i still do in fact - i bought some clear specs from claires accessories (i was in there on the pretence of buying for my 4 year old) a couple of months ago and wore them and felt good. but my kids moaned and yelled til i took them off.

  4. I agree that kids seem to be more relaxed about glasses these days. Ian wears his without a second thought but he did pick out a very chic and stylish pair which helps.

  5. One of Boy #1's friends just started wearing glasses and I have to say, he too (just like your Little Guy) looks adorable. And none of the other kids seem to have anything to say about it; how times have changed!

  6. I got glasses at that age. The teasing started but very soon shopped because I was so happy I could see and see the blackboard particularly. I was top of the class that year. If he is confident everyone will love them.

  8. And how are YOUR eyes?

Glasses ARE much better these days.

I don't get the nasal-inhaler mime reference... Not up with teen culture...

  9. Aah so sweet!

(You are reminding me that I should take my own six-year-old-with-headaches to his much-delayed yearly eye test. We may soon go to pick out glasses as well.)
