Just had to say

I deliberately don't do politics here, (unless we're talking about Palin's choice of names for her brood), but I just have to say-

Yay.
(That's what they say over here instead of Ye-e-s!)

I think we have elected a very decent, intelligent man and I have no doubt that the country will be in safe hands.

And furthermore, now I don't have to think about not living here any more; I really don't think I could have stayed with Palin anywhere near the White House.

Better go and unpack those suitcases!

  2. Yay!

I still can't work out why in the world anyone in their right mind would vote for McCain, but he had a majority in my state, so there must be lots of them around.

  3. Ditto ditto ditto - just hoping he keeps to his promise of saving the auto industry out here, else we will have to be on the plane back to Blighty....

  6. I've been crying all morning but have now put on my "face" so mustn't smudge anything. Whoopi Goldberg was really the one that got me. She said "I now feel like I can unpack my suitcase". Can you imagine being of a people who were dragged to a country in chains and then made to feel so unwelcome? Words aren't enough.

  7. Fireworks are going off here for Bonfire Night, but as far as I'm concerned they're to celebrate Obama's -- and our -- victory.

  8. A wonderful and very historic day indeed!!! Now perhaps there will finally be equal rights for absolutely everyone!
And let's hope that now all the chaos in the world can stop after all those Bush years... ;)

  10. As a Republican, I am very pleased with the outcome. It's time to put the GOP on the naughty step so the can think about what they've done. And Obama was the better man in all respects.

  13. Just had to pop over and say "YAY" too. Have been seeing the news this evening, and Chicago is where it's at! Wonderful news. I agree, Obama seems like a thoughtful and intelligent man. Chicago must be a very exciting place to be right now. M xx

  14. Here here. It feels like this campaign has been running since I was a little girl myself so I relieved it's over for that reason too!
Plus if I see any more jokes or pokes at Palin I might just start feeling sorry for her and that just can't happen.

  16. I really hope it goes well for President-elect Obama. During the campaign I kept thinking about his first name. There is a bottled water in Egypt called "Baraka" and the meaning of that word, I think, in Arabic is: blessing or breath of life. Sure is.

  20. Brilliant news! It was all so moving even from this far away, lucky you being in Chicago. I should have called my boys Track and Trig, too late now though...

  23. I am so glad. I have the 'yay' gene now as Miss E is addicted to 'Suite Life of Zack and Cody' as are all her friends so they all say it. The sentiment is perfect though. Yay.

  24. I shared your suitcase idea.

I was like: "This is it, America. The chance to prove to me that you're everything I believe you are - or you're just a bunch of conservative hicks like all my snobboy, Eurotrash friends sneer."

The USA didn't disappoint, thank God!

  25. Quite. YAY! And huge sigh of relief that woman-with-brood-with-dodgy-names isn't going to have a hand in all our futures.
