The Last Biscuit

Here's a little piece on my BBC America page that might have a few Brits laughing (at themselves).

  1. This made me laugh...because I'm American and I was raised the exact same way...and have taught my son the same. Maybe I'm more British than I was led to believe!

  2. I actually feel liberated, maybe I'm just a selfish b*gger in this respect! I also employed my knife and fork the American way, long before I even considered crossing the Atlantic! ;-)

  3. Oh God Yes! I remember once asking my Dad if he was sure about not wanting the last bread roll - he changed his mind and ate it. I have never been that polite since, one ask and then it's mine!

  4. I have no idea where this comes from, but I was brought up to always ask, and my husband does the same. Here in Korea, it is considered quite rude to take the last one of anything (even if no one else seems to want it) so if you're out with a group at a restaurant eating a traditional dish (most of them are served in the middle of the table with people picking out what they want with their chopsticks or spoons,) the last bits of every dish are often left over.

  5. I love this particularly British neurosis--it means I always get the last cookie, I mean, biscuit.

  7. LOL - Glad we can laugh at ourselves - a true test of humour!!

Reminds me of when I used to smoke and if someone offered me a ciggi and there was less than 5 cigarettes in the pack I used to say,
    "Is that all you've got?"

    to which he replied,
"Well how many do you want?"

    LOL

I will be a frequent visitor - love your blog.

  9. One of my friends asks if anyone wants the last biscuit, then grabs it and licks it quickly. One day I'm going to say yes and take it though!
