Surviving the Holidays

If you're a) not American and b) have been paying close attention over the years of reading this blog, you'll know that "the Holidays" in the USA doesn't mean packing your swimming cossie and heading somewhere warm, it refers to Thanksgiving and/or the Christmas-New Year festive seasons.

And Thanksgiving is now upon us, so of course, I'm writing about it. This time it's over at the Wall Street Journal and I'm talking about how to survive when hosting guests. Take a peak here.

And Happy Thanksgiving if you're celebrating.

  1. Just read your article in The Wall St Journal, which you wrote very well and thoroughly.
But, you know what? I'm so glad we don't have to do Thanksgiving over here right on top of Christmas.
I really hope you have a very Happy one, though, and everything goes as planned.

  2. I don't miss putting together a giant holiday meal and then doing it all over again 4 weeks later, but I do miss seeing my family and friends. And I'm not in the least bit unhappy about missing out on the college football mania that is part and parcel of Thanksgiving. The mince pies are growing on me, but I'm not there yet.

  3. Well done you! I love the Wall Street Journal. They do such a great job on the style section too. Im always thinking up ideas for them and never doing them.
We don't have a spare room and that keeps all guests at bay, or we book them into a hotel.
My in laws are lovely but they of their own volition only stay three days and to be honest that's good for everyone
