A Concise List of Mom and Pop Trump's Parenting "misses"

So yeah, I'm back to Trump - because the guy is just darn-tootin' great blog fodder. This week he's apoplectic on Obama's behalf because when the President arrived at the G20 Summit, he disembarked on what looked like his own metal staircase. Not that he carries one around in his back pocket, but there happened to be one on Air Force One. Ever the thin-skinned whiner, Trump immediately assumed this was a deliberate slight and has been claiming that he would've closed the doors and left, toot sweet. Yes, folks, why bother with what the facts might be when you can leap straight to the assumption that you've been slighted and then skip an important global conflab. Because, EGO.

According to the Chinese, this was orchestrated by the US because they had problems with the translation of requests. Or something. This of course, won't pass muster with Trump - or will it? He blows hot and cold about China, as he does with everything else, so perhaps it's a "We heart China" day.

But the phrase "Choose your battles" came to mind. You know, the one we use to deal with tantrum-ing toddlers and teenagers. His parents obviously forgot to drum that one into Donnie's thick little skull. And thus, my list of parenting misses committed by Mr. and Mrs. Trump -

Choose your battles - Trump's parents  clearly encouraged Donnie's red-faced rages when they forgot to teach him which battles just weren't worth his attention. A few sessions of "Now Donnie, is this really going to enhance your profile, win friends or influence people?" might have saved us from a tirade or two and probably added a few years to the Orange one's lifespan. He claims to sleep 3-4 hours per night but you'd think all that tirade-ing would tire him out.

Know your subject - Trump assures us (daily) that he's the best builder and brander there ever was, and although he's being closely inspected by the Tax Man, (wink), I'll let that one pass. What mom and pop forgot to tell him was that you should know something about every area you wander in to, no matter how casually. He demonstrates all-too-often that he has no working knowledge of The Constitution, the US political system, or international matters. One wonders exactly what they taught him in those fancy schools. (And boy, must they be proud right now.)

Don't fib -  Ugh, where to start? He should have "pants on fire" stamped on his forehead, although the coconut matting would probably hide it. Such is his passion for the half truth (or just no-truth), the Pulitzer-prize winning web site Politifact named him their 2015 Liar of the Year. Just 9% of what he said checked out.

Don't exaggerate - When he's not lying, Don the Con can usually be heard beefing up his numbers. Examples include-

“We are the highest taxed nation in the world.” (We're just not.)

When asked who he consults on foreign policy matters - “I’m speaking with myself, number one, because I have a very good brain and I’ve said a lot of things,” (Donald - you merely have a brain. Let's not get carried away.)

And unbelievably- “Our problems can all be fixed … but only by me.” (Not by a long shot but a couple of details would be nice.)

Be kind - Again, where to start? Not only is he caught on camera mocking a disabled person, but he has a history of not paying people (mainly small business owners) who have done work for him, often resulting in extreme financial distress for said people. He also has a sketchy record of donating to charities even though he brags about how much he gives away.

Lovely, isn't he?

Look in the mirror - And this should have been literally as well as metaphorically. Because he's so good-looking (cough, cough) he just can't empathize with people who don't share his facial fortune. When Carly Fiorina was running against him for the republican nomination, he was quoted as saying - "Look at that face!........Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?!......I mean, she's a woman, and I'm not s'posedta say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?"

So yes, Mom and Pop Trump, you have some serious gaps in your parenting skills and if you're looking down right now, I hope you're as galled as everyone else.

  1. Sadly, I know several people who will vote for him and they are unwilling to look at him critically. They do not even want to hear criticisms of the man because everyone who is criticizing him are just out to get him for the lulz. I would also add tact to the list of things Mom and Pop Trump should have taught him, but then again being tactful = Politically Correct.

  2. Ugh - I wish they would realize how unfunny it all is.

  3. Almost all my friends and family back in the States are proudly voting for Trump. The evangelicals among them are on his side simply because of his stand on abortion. (Okay, he agrees with you on that; so let's start WWIII just so we can have our way on a single issue.) The rest of them are just disenfranchised and willing to vote for anyone who is not a politician.

Trump is a dangerous man, and rational people know he should not, could not, be elected. But, Brexit, anyone...?

    1. Funny thing is, he may not be a politician but he's been playing the politics game his whole life and he's now making a fool of his fans.

  4. Since I'm with her and generally speaking, a rational person, I completely agree with your thoughtful and funny piece, Toni. Listening to the world news lately, especially out of South America, it has occurred to me that electing a inexperienced, business-based person to run governments has not worked out well for either Brazil or Venezuela. I cannot think it would work any better for the USA, although I haven't done an in-depth study on the matter. I can only hope and pray that somewhere, somehow, rationality prevails over conspiracy theories and Clinton is elected. It's just so danged scary that there's the possibility of der Drumpf's winning. Makes my brain hurt and my blood run cold.

    1. A business man would be one thing but he is showing himself daily, to be uninformed as well as unhinged and an egotistical bigot.

    2. He doesn't even keep his end of the bargain in business deals. If you are looking for someone to fix "the system" then getting a man engaged in corruption and dishonesty is not the way to go about this. In fact, the cheerleading group Freedoms Kids" are actually suing him for stiffing them on campaign appearances. Not even children are sacred.
