So you're probably aware of the raging debates going on at the moment in the wake of the terrible school shooting in Connecticut.
I'm not getting into that; quite frankly I'm exhausted with it all, and very disappointed in the "solution" proposed by the NRA - fight guns with more guns.
I'd like to draw your attention to this article in the Huffington Post, which, as far as I'm concerned, goes a long way in explaining the gun culture in this country.
If you were brought up outside the USA, it will probably make your head spin!
Yikes.
ReplyDeleteI know. Amazingly, a lot of people are insisting that this hasn't contributed to the culture of guns and violence. I think it must take someone from a different country to see that an ad with a teeny little girl, in bed amongst soft toys, - with a pistol, is a little er, "off".
ReplyDeleteMy favourite is "Insure against a dull vacation". Yes - I always find that a gun-fight livens up even the most boring Mark Warner holiday...
ReplyDeleteSurely that advert must break some advertising standards.
ReplyDeleteIn Albania we had a photo shop in our road, whose advertising sign outside featured a cute little boy cradling an AK47... I mean where do you even start deconstructing that??
ReplyDeleteI agree - sheer insanity. I'm an American living in South Korea, feeling immeasurably safer here. North Korea test-fired a missile the same day as the shooting in CT. Nobody noticed.
