What to Expect if You're in an American Wedding

Just like most things, there are many differences between American and British weddings. Pop over to the BBC America's "Mind the Gap" page to hear what I have to say.

  1. This sounds pretty par for the course in the US(although this can vary widely), but is there somewhere I can go to find out how this differs from being in a wedding in the UK?(I realize you're writing for an audience who already knows what it's like to be in a British wedding.) From the outside, both productions look pretty similar. Does most of the difference lie in all the pre-wedding parties? Or the responsibilities of the MOH and bridesmaids?

  2. You forgot to mention that the bridesmaids and the maid of honor will usually be asked to purchase the most god-awful dress that they ever seen...unless that's done in Britain as well, if it is, then yep, you've summed it up perfectly!

  3. MsC - I will address that in an upcoming post. Thx for the blog idea.

Gigi - LOL. In the UK you just get to keep the most god-awful dress, but at least you don't pay for it!

  4. I've managed to avoid any weddings since being here, but we did go to a 'baby shower' the other week and was much more formal than anything I've experienced in the Uk...

  5. Oh dear..... I expect most people would prefer not to be asked! It all sounds very OTT!

  7. I had a British wedding in America and that really messed with everyone. But people were mostly polite. Great post by the way--been there and commented.
